Scout Programs at the
Great Plains Nature Center

Scout programs are available on Tuesdays and Saturdays by appointment only.

Program fees are:
$5.00 per scout - $2.50 for participating sibling - Adults free
$20 non-refundable deposit due 5 days prior to program.
The registration form will be sent to you after the program is scheduled.
Make checks out to: "FGPNC".    Thanks!

Your $20 non-refundable deposit must accompany your registration form.
Payment for the amount owed over the $20 deposit
is due on the day of the program.

All programs are held at the Great Plains Nature Center.
Participating scouts will complete most or all requirements for the given topic.

GIRL SCOUTS:

     For each program, all requirements for the advancement point will be accomplished.

Daisy - program length 1 hour
Green Petal or Rose Petal
Bring your Daisies to the Great Plains Nature Center for an hour of fun including a nature walk, crafts and games.
Brownie - program length 1 1/2 hours
Animals
Can you look, move, and sound like a native wild animal? At the Great Plains Nature Center, learn what makes wild animals wild and what to do when you encounter them.
Eco-Explorer
Go on a nature hike at the Great Plains Nature Center and explore how plants and animals live together. We'll learn what a habitat is, design your own habitat for native wildlife and make paper food chains.
Watching Wildlife
Let's go shopping! Girls will make a "grocery list" of what native critters might need to survive. We'll learn how animals communicate and how they change from season to season as well as get up close and personal with earthworms.
Junior - program length 1 1/2 hours
Earth Connections
Become an ecologist at the Great Plains Nature Center! 
Learn how nature changes over time and play some Eco-Games.
Wildlife
Use scientific tools to get a closer look at the wildlife at the Great Plains Nature Center and record what you see in your own wildlife journal.

    For each program, all requirements for the advancement point will be accomplished, EXCEPT Wolf-Birds, for which 2 of the 6 are left undone.  Programs are 1 1/2 hours long unless otherwise noted.

Tigers
Let's Go Outdoors! (one hour program)
We'll use our senses on a nature hike through Chisholm Creek Park and make leaf rubbings.
Wolf
Birds (Elective 13)
Share bird stories on a bird hike, start a bird list, and learn about nests and nesting materials.
Bear
Sharing Your World With Wildlife
Learn what a conservation officer does and why their work is so important.
We’ll go on a hike and you’ll make a poster to share all you’ve learned.
Webelos
Forester
Discover how a tree works from roots to leaf tips.
You’ll also learn several native tree and plant species and how they make a forest.
Naturalist
Learn a little bit about everything from life underground to birds of the air.
You’ll play a nature game and go on a hike.
