The Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism (KDWPT) is responsible for ongoing maintenance and upkeep of the Great Plains Nature Center and its contents.  They also provided a large part of the funds to construct the exhibits in the Exhibit Hall.  The Region 4 office of KDWPT is located in the office wing of the Great Plains Nature Center.  The KDWPT continues its participation in the direction of the GPNC through the GPNC Steering Committee.  To learn more about KDWPT, visit their web site.

and directly support the educational mission of the GPNC.

MISSION STATEMENT
Fish, wildlife and outdoor recreation are important to the quality of life for all Kansans and to the Kansas economy. As a public steward of the Kansas natural resources, the mission of the Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism is to:

Conserve and enhance Kansas natural heritage, its wildlife and its habitats--to assure future generations the benefits of the state's diverse, living resources;

Provide the public with opportunities for the use and appreciation of the natural resources of Kansas, consistent with the conservation of those resources;

Inform the public of the status of the natural resources of Kansas to promote understanding and gain assistance in achieving this mission.

If you have any business to conduct with KDWPT, please call or drop by during business hours, which are Monday-Friday, 8:00 A.M.-4:45 P.M.  If you come by in person for KDWPT business, you may use the small parking lot on the south side of the building.
